The Green Man, An “English” Pub in the Cyberpunk Future

The lure of the English Pub stretches across centuries and even across continents, the idea and ideal of the local public house where you can get a drink and a meal,  meet up with friends, and catch up on the neighborhood news and gossip, remains its allure.  So there has been considerable effort and money spent trying to recreat the English Pub is various places, one such attempt -and a relatively successful one- is the Green Man in Seattle.

The Space:
The Green Man is located just inside the boundary of Downtown Seattle on the ground floor of a building built in the 1920s and constantly repaired and upgraded over the more than a century and a half of its existence.  The Green Man was opened in the late 2050s (2058 to be exact) by a British expatriate from York with the backing of several corporate investors.  It was retrofitted to resemble an even older building that is is, with wood panelling and brass (both excellent simulations on the exterior).  Its sign is painted by a local artist and a new one is created every five years with the retired signs on display on the interior while the AR display all of the signs with the most recent in the center and larger than its forebears.

The Green Man is a single large floor, the interior is wood and brass, with decorations from the British Isles.  One half is pure ancient public house, the other half has TriD screen for sports viewing, as it has attracted a serious cadre of football (i.e. soccer) fans, both combat and league.  One room, the “Old Home Room”, plays only classic football matches involving English teams all day.

The waitstaff does not wear any particular uniform, but just regular clothes with a broad nod to classic British pub wear.  But they do tend to stand out from their customers who tend more to corporate wear or current fashion.
