Imposter Syndrome

03 Saturday May 2025
After posting these latest drawings of mine, I’m reminded of the ultimate imposter syndrome freak-out I’ve experienced.
Two years ago, Jennell Jaquays dropped me a line out of the blue asking what it would take to get some original Dyson art in the new Heroes of Legend.
THIS FREAKED ME OUT.
When I started gaming in ’79, she was already a force to be reckoned with in the RPG scene as a designer, artist, and later as an art director too. Talk about imposter syndrome showing up out of the blue.

These are the two pieces I did for the book – both in the prisoner section. The first is a slave gladiator, exhausted after returning from the arena. The second is someone who learned and then was twisted and lightly mutated by dark powers while a prisoner.

I’m still really happy with the gladiator, but I think I could do her better now with another two years of practice behind me.
